I’m a sucker for redheads and always have been. Case in point – As a little girl I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid and grinned with joy whenever I was compared to little orphan Annie.
Needless to say it’s something that’s stuck with me over the years, so when I first saw Melissa, I knew I had to photograph her. We worked together at the same company for two years before I changed positions and got a cubicle right next to hers, finally working up the nerve to say hello. We became friends instantly and it wasn’t long before I popped the questions, “Can I photograph you?”
I styled Melissa in a beautiful 1930’s silk gown and vintage fur coat for the first half of our shoot and collaborated with Brittany Morgan Woodcox to work some magic on her hair. Together we stomped around the foothills just outside Chico, California in late spring, hoping to scare away baby rattle snakes and stumble upon photo worthy landscapes.
There were a lot of laughs, some camera juggling, outdoor wardrobe changes, and more than a few memories made.
