My Photobooth Tintypes

Tintype Photography, Photobooth, San Francisco, Black and White, Briana Morrison+

Ever since Photobooth opened their doors in San Francisco it’s been a dream of mine to have my tintype portrait taken.  Over the last weekend I was able to turn that dream into a reality and make some new friends in the process.

We walked in and browsed for a while before accepting a beer and sitting down to chat with Melissa in the lounge.  What started out as light chatter turned into a conversation about art, life in the city, and mutual connections.

Then it was time.

They sat me down in front of the camera, amidst all the lights and reflectors, and told me not to blink.  Then it was done!  A 60 second exposure and I was free to enjoy the rest of my beer while a little ballerina took my place in front of the lights.

Because of my enthusiasm, I was invited into the darkroom to watch the development process.  The whole thing looks deceptively simple but I believe it’s a process I could learn to love.  And so…the hunt for another camera begins as I reach further back into to photography’s beautiful past.
