This beautiful wedding was described by Style Me Pretty as “romantic”, and it’s true there was a good bit of romance in attendance, but to squeeze this wedding into one little category just doesn’t do it justice. Cally and Guy’s wedding day was as close to perfect as it gets. Early morning rain showers soaked the land, creating a beautiful mist that cooled the air to rest at a perfect 70 degrees. The bride and her bridesmaids got ready in downtown Portland at The Nines in one of the most beautiful hotel rooms I’ve had the pleasure of shooting in. After everyone was ready we made our way to Rippling Waters Park, a peaceful sanctuary in Forest Grove, Oregon.
The ceremony was held in front of an authentic tea house decorated in an abundance of pale pink garden roses. Cally and Guy’s sweet dog, Chowder, laid at their feet throughout their vows and there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen as they said “I do”. After the ceremony we wandered off with the bride and groom to take a few photographs in the woods and along the creek then made our way up to the reception site where they had a photo booth and giant trampoline to entertain their guests. Simpatica catered a delicious meal for the entire party and then it was time for the dancing to begin. This is where it really got fun! Cally and Guy didn’t hold back on the dance floor and neither did their guests. The father of the bride ended up with a cane in his mouth at one point and was wiggling around on the floor another.
As the live band wound down everyone made their way to the burn site where Cally’s uncle had created a beautiful wood sculpture in honor of Burning Man. The fire altar was lit and we all soaked up its warmth as embers drifted up into the night sky. This moment was truly magical, a hush settling over the crowd as they watched the flames in the night. This sounds like a good way to bring the evening to a close but Cally and Guy had something a little more… energetic in mind.
They exited their reception through a maze of sparklers and ran down a torch lit path to the after party. We could already hear music as we made our way to the barn and jumped right into a raging dance party. People got silly, beer was thrown into the air, pieces of clothing were stripped down and passed around, and the DJ kept on spinning. We photographed the party till the end of our scheduled time then we stuck around to do a little dancing ourselves. When we left close to midnight, the party was still going strong, the bass was thumping and cheers were heard. I’m not sure how late the party went but it’s obvious they packed in and soaked up as much joy as possible.
So, if you asked me to describe this wedding with one word, my word would be EPIC.
