Blake and Emily’s beautiful Portland wedding was definitely one to remember! They chose an iconic music venue to tie the knot and host their friends and family for one of the raddest weddings I’ve had the pleasure of attending.
When fellow photographer Kelly, of June Lion, asked me to team up with her for this wedding I was giddy as all hell. No joke!
Blake and Emily held their wedding at one of Portland’s coolest venus, Holocene. This was my first time photographing a wedding at Holocene and I can’t wait to shoot there again. This venue is perfect for any hip music lover.
Located in the old Best Auto Parts warehouse on the corner of SE 10th and Morrison, Holocene is a 5000 sq ft, 325 person venue with soaring white walls, 25 foot ceilings, spindly buttresses, and a metric ton of hand- built modern detail.
In short, it’s perfect!
Blake and Emily got ready on site in the two smaller themed rooms at Holocene. Emily spent most of her time with her bridesmaids in the Moonrise Kingdom- esque tent room while Blake prepared some last minute details with his groomsmen in the record room featuring tall white walls, a high window, and loads of old records decorating the space. The ceremony was held on a stage surrounded by beautiful geometric wall sculpture, lending a distinct modern vibe to the nuptials. The ceiling came equipped with a disco ball that lit the room with sparkling light whenever my flash hit its surface. Pretty damn magical if you ask me.
Their all- vegetarian dinner was catered by Tamale Boy (the best!!!) and the dance party was hosted by two of their good friends.
And, of course, one of my favorite details at Holocene is the retro photo booth set up next to the bar. Emily and Blake had their friends and family take portraits in the booth all night, then collected the wacky portraits to use in their gust book. Best. Idea. Ever.
Needless to say, this wedding was a blast! Huge thanks to Emily, Blake, and Kelly for inviting me to join in on the fun. 🙂
