Alanna and Marcus were visiting Portland for the first time to celebrate their 3 year wedding anniversary. During our stroll around downtown Portland, Alanna exclaimed, “It’s fun to be young and married!” They decided to document their celebration with a downtown Portland couples session.
In this session they wanted to capture Portland as a city, showing off it’s amazing architecture. In addition, they are a fashionable couple and wanted a session that would also feature their personalities as a couple.
We chose to meet at Powell’s City of Books and walked Northwest Portland neighborhoods to find beautiful spots for portraits, while we got to know each other. Read on to discover the elements that made this downtown Portland couples anniversary session a success.
There were a few key elements that really helped their session come to life:
- They created a mood board on Pinterest. This really helped me see the vibe and location types that interested Alanna and Marcus. That way I could find similar locations while we walked around downtown Portland.
- Alanna presented Marcus with a gift. We found a cute little spot to sit and have a moment for a personal exchange. I stood back and let the moment unfold as Marcus opened a handwritten card from Alanna. Also inside of the card there were tickets to a concert for one of his favorite bands. This was a great way for them to create a memory together while also allowing me to capture genuine emotion.
- They kept it simple. Alanna and Marcus chose not to do any wardrobe changes. They simply accessorized well. This allowed for some variety but a nice consistent gallery of images. We placed these photographs into a custom designed album which told a beautiful story about their time in Portland for their anniversary.
