Mindful Wedding Planning After Your Holiday Engagement

Navigating Your Wedding Journey with Joy and Intention

The moment of engagement is a beautiful milestone, marking the beginning of a profound journey of love and partnership. As a wedding photographer who has witnessed countless love stories unfold, I understand that the path from “yes” to “I do” is as unique as each couple’s relationship. This guide is designed to help you navigate your engagement with grace, excitement, and minimal stress. Embracing mindful wedding planning can transform your engagement into a meaningful experience. Allowing time to celebrate your love intentionally and create a wedding that truly reflects your shared values and vision.

The Celebration Phase: Honoring Your Love

In the immediate aftermath of your engagement, the most important thing is to celebrate your connection. This is a time of pure joy, of basking in the warmth of your love and the promise of your shared future. Don’t rush into wedding planning or get caught up in the logistics just yet. Instead, take some time to truly appreciate this special chapter of your relationship.

Share your excitement with loved ones. Host an intimate gathering, make phone calls, or create a meaningful way to announce your engagement that feels authentic to you. Take time to tell each other the stories of how you fell in love, reflect on your journey, and dream about your future together. Consider taking a special trip or creating a memorable experience that celebrates your engagement in a way that’s meaningful to both of you.

Transitioning to Mindful Wedding Planning: A Thoughtful Approach

When you feel ready to move from celebration to planning, approach the process with intention and joy. The key is to remember that your wedding is a reflection of your unique love story – not a performance or a competition, but a deeply personal celebration of your connection.

Choosing Your Wedding Team

Hiring a wedding planner can be an incredibly valuable step. Look for a professional who understands your vision and can help bring it to life while keeping you grounded. A good planner becomes more than just a vendor. They’re a partner in creating a day that truly represents you as a couple.

A few of our favorite Portland based wedding planners include:

Venue and Vendor Selection

Venue selection is perhaps one of the most exciting and significant decisions you’ll make. This is where your wedding story will unfold, so take your time exploring options. Consider factors beyond just the physical space – think about the feeling the venue creates, how it aligns with your vision, and how it can accommodate your guests comfortably. Summer wedding dates book quickly, often 18 months in advance, so start exploring early.

Vendor selection is an art of its own. Prioritize the vendors who matter most to you – often, this means photography, venue, and catering. Look for professionals who not only have technical skill but who also connect with your vision and make you feel comfortable. Your wedding vendors will be intimately involved in one of the most important days of your life, so choose people who understand and celebrate your love.

A Word of Wisdom: Stay True to Yourselves

Throughout this journey, remember that your wedding is about your love, not about creating a perfect performance. There will be moments of stress, decisions that feel overwhelming, and opinions from well-meaning friends and family. In those moments, return to the core of why you’re getting married – your love, your commitment, your unique connection.

Don’t be afraid to make choices that feel right for you, even if they don’t follow traditional expectations. Whether that means an intimate elopement, a backyard celebration, or a grand traditional wedding, what matters most is that the day feels authentically yours.

Your Beautiful Journey Begins

Your engagement is a precious time of connection, anticipation, and love. Approach it with an open heart and a sense of adventure, knowing your love is the true centerpiece of this journey. Mindful wedding planning allows you to create a celebration that reflects your unique bond, focusing on intentional choices that honor your relationship rather than getting lost in external pressures and expectations.

The first time I visited the Pantheon in Rome it was on accident. I stumbled across a colossal building while wandering the alleys and piazzas and figured I should check it out.

There was no line, no tickets, no crowd. The entire experience felt a little surreal.

Ten years later I visit again and now you need tickets to get inside. The sea of people out front is dense with tour guides and panhandling. A little of that magic stolen away.

So the trick is, for the exterior anyway, to visit at dawn. Catch this beauty before the crowds wake up, while the sun stretches over the rooftops to light up the solid marble pillars in golden light.

If you’re planning an elopement, wedding, or honeymoon in Rome, Italy I’d be honored to be your guide and photographer. I can bring you to all the best views and historic locations and know of an excellent private tour guide who can share the history of these beautiful places.

Looking through my archives and updating some older articles this week. I’ve been photographing weddings for 16 years. 16 YEARS!

This little introvert has grown so much as an artist, business woman, and human in that time.

I love my work so much more deeply than I ever thought possible.

Anywho, I hope you’re having a great Thursday. Hit me up if you need a wedding photographer! ☺️
